SIS to Launch New Journal

Friday, July 17, 2020

Message from Matthew Smuck, MD, on behalf of the SIS Board of Directors

Dear SIS Members,

We are excited to announce that SIS will be launching our own scientific journal. For the last several years, the Spine Intervention Society has designated Pain Medicine as the Society’s official journal. While contributions from SIS and our members have been an important part of the success of Pain Medicine, it is solely owned and controlled by the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM). Faced with significant financial ramifications of continuing our relationship with Pain Medicine, SIS leadership was compelled to carefully consider our options and decided to launch our own scientific journal.

Our society has a strong reputation for supporting high quality research, clinical practice guidelines, and FactFinders, and for producing trustworthy evidence-based publications. While we realize that this endeavor will require significant time and effort, it represents an incredible opportunity to provide an intellectual home for our members and researchers, while strengthening the Society’s position as a leader in the scientific field.

This represents the beginning of an exciting new era for the SIS community and will buttress our mission to develop and promote the highest standards for the practice of interventional pain procedures.

We hope to have our new journal up and running in the early months of 2021, and we are counting on you, our esteemed SIS members, to support the journal by submitting your manuscripts for review and by helping us promote the new SIS journal. More information will be forthcoming in the next few months.

At this time, we wish to announce an official search for the Editor-in-Chief of the journal. For more information, please click here.
