Quantifying the Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Practice of Interventional Pain

Often in the course of conducting research, it is helpful for investigators to obtain information about current practice patterns, values, or other issues and opinions from physicians. The Research Division of the Spine Intervention Society has reviewed and approved dissemination of the following survey to Society members.

Effect of COVID-19 on Interventional Pain Physicians

Coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) has already had an unprecedented effect on the world and on healthcare. To date, no evidence exists quantifying any of these effects on interventional pain physicians. The purpose of this survey is to evaluate the thoughts and actions of interventional pain physicians during this time. Specifically, we aim to evaluate how practitioners are influenced by the CDC guidelines, if COVID-19 is affecting financial viability, and how all of this is affecting patient care.

All physician members of the Spine Intervention Society are eligible to participate. Participation entails completion of a completely anonymous 5-minute initial survey. Interested physicians will also be invited to participate in very brief (2-minute) follow-up surveys approximately every 2 weeks to evaluate changes over the coming months. Those who wish to participate in follow-up surveys can provide an email address to receive the automatic follow-up surveys every two weeks. This survey is completely voluntary. All data will be stored on REDCap servers, which are secure and HIPAA-compliant.

We do not foresee any risks to you, the participant, but it is possible you could feel more emotional stress due to discussion of the current situation. There is no direct benefit to you, the participant; however, we hope that the information gleaned from this study can help guide future decision-making for other pandemics or natural disasters.
