SIS, AMA, and Others Voice Concern Executive Order Will Weaken Nonphysician Supervision Requirement

Thursday, October 31, 2019
On September 20, 2019, the Spine Intervention Society joined the AMA and 102 other medical societies or state medical associations in submitting a letter to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), outlining concerns with a provision in Executive Order 13890, Protecting and Improving Medicare for Our Nation’s Seniors. Specifically, the medical community expresses concern with language that eliminates or weakens current Medicare supervision requirements of nonphysician professionals. The letter also expresses concern regarding a proposal for regulations that would impact the reimbursement of physicians and nonphysicians established under the Social Security Act. The SIS joins the AMA and other signatories in urging DHHS to reconsider these supervision and reimbursement policies.

SIS is able to participate in advocacy efforts organized by the American Medical Association due to SIS members who maintain their own membership in the AMA. Help SIS maintain its seat at this important table by keeping your AMA membership current.
