SIS Represented at Coding & Reimbursement Meetings

Friday, October 11, 2019

The Spine Intervention Society’s Scott Horn, DO, attended the American Medical Association (AMA) Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) Editorial Panel meeting, September 26-28. The Panel is in charge of the development and revisions of procedure codes mandated by the U.S. Federal government. It convenes meetings three times per year to solicit the direct input of practicing physicians, medical device manufacturers, developers of the latest diagnostic tests, and advisors from societies like SIS.

Members were also represented at the October 5-9 AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) meeting by Wesley Ibazebo, MD. The RUC is an advisory body to the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that reviews medical procedures and provides Relative Value Unit (RVU) recommendations.

SIS is able to participate in the CPT and RUC thanks to SIS members who maintain their own membership in the AMA. Help SIS maintain its seat at this important table by keeping your AMA membership current.
