Help California Workers’ Comp Division See the Value of RF Neurotomy and SCS

Monday, April 22, 2019

California’s Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) is currently soliciting public comments on the proposed adoption of guidelines from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) to establish its medical treatment utilization schedule. SIS finds several aspects of the guideline deficient and has submitted a comment letter promoting access to radiofrequency neurotomy and spinal cord stimulationprocedures not covered by these guidelines.

SIS previously shared comments on February 23, 2018 cautioning the State of California’s DWC that, by adopting the ACOEM guidelines on disorders of the cervical and thoracic spine and low back in 2018, they had adopted guidelines that do not utilize the best available medical evidence and may jeopardize Californians with work-related injuries and illnesses. SIS submitted another comment letter on February 11, 2019 addressing concerns with the adoption of the ACOEM cervical and thoracic guidelines in 2019.

SIS members in the State of California are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting on May 6th at 10 a.m. to present public comments promoting access to safe and effective interventional spine procedures in appropriately selected patients. Click here for meeting details.
