SIS Nominates Drs. Horn and Vorenkamp to New U.S. Pain Management Task Force

On September 26, 2017, the Spine Intervention Society (SIS) nominated Scott Horn, DO, and Kevin Vorenkamp, MD, to serve on the Pain Management Best Practices Inter-Agency Task Force. This national task force was called for by the U.S. Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2016 (CARA) and will:

  • determine whether there are gaps or inconsistencies in pain management best practices among federal agencies,
  • propose recommendations on addressing gaps or inconsistencies,
  • provide the public with an opportunity to comment on any proposed recommendations, and
  • develop a strategy for disseminating information about best practices.

If accepted, Drs. Horn and Vorenkamp will share the expertise of the SIS interventional pain community alongside other key stakeholders including: representatives from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) agencies, the U.S. Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense, the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and other experts from pain management professional organizations, the mental health treatment community, the addiction treatment community, pain advocacy groups, groups with expertise on overdose reversal, State medical boards, and hospitals.
