SIS Represented at Spine Summit

Health Policy Division chair Scott Horn, DO represented SIS at the Spine Summit on August 5, 2016. The agenda included updates and information on a variety of topics, such as: performance measures, registries, guidelines, and appropriate use criteria; patient safety issues focusing on the opioid public health crisis and spinal impairment and disability; payment issues focusing on CMS's proposed rule outlining MACRA; and coverage recommendations. SIS remains committed to collaboration with other medical associations on topics of mutual interest.

Other attendees included: the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS); the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM); the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (AAPM&R); the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) / Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS); the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA); the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA); the American Society of Spine Radiology (ASSR); the Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS); the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine; North American Spine Society (NASS); and the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS).
