Technological advances and strong evidence of efficacy are setting the stage for expanded demand for Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) therapy to assist our most challenging spine pain patients. To succeed in this burgeoning practice area, you need to be proficient in SCS lead placement for both lumbar and cervical regions, understand driving and positioning surgical techniques for spinal stimulation placement, understand potential complications, know the supportive literature, review case presentations, and be aware of current and future trends for neurostimulation technologies. The SIS Neurostimulation course addresses these aspects plus gives you intense, hands-on training in surgical implantation techniques in small-groups. 

 

This course brings you face-to-face with our highly-trained faculty members, each with over a decade of experience practicing neuromodulation. Join an elite group of fellow physicians to learn, practice, and add the art and science of spinal cord stimulation to your armamentarium.

 


During this neurostimulation course the following hands-on lab stations will occur:

  • How to Trial: Trial Process, Lead Advancement, and Location
  • Placing and Anchoring of Permanents Leads
  • IPG Implant Pocket Creating, Tunneling

In addition, there will be lectures covering:

  • Patient Selection: Psychologic Evaluation, Confounding Medical Condition, Approval Process
  • How to Trial Patients and Evaluation of Trial Results
  • Permanent Placement and Ongoing Care
  • Complication and Risk Mitigation
  • Coding and Billing

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
  • Compare the different systems available and make the system, technique, and modality selection based on specific patient needs;
  • Identify the risks and benefits of spinal cord stimulators, as well as assessment, prevention, and treatment of potential complications;
  • Apply programming and medical management for neuromodulation devices; and
  • Name the literature support for the validity of the modalities.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)
The Spine Intervention Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Spine Intervention Society designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

The American Medical Association has determined that physicians not licensed in the US to participate in this CME activity are eligible for 
AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.



The Spine Intervention Society advises participants to continue to obtain proctoring, mentoring, and additional experience prior to treating patients.



Target Audience
This live activity has been designed for physicians who perform spine intervention procedures.

The Spine Intervention Society strongly advises that members are proficient in the lumbar spine before progressing to cervical techniques and other advanced interventional procedures. 

Who May Attend
Registration is open to Spine Intervention Society members who are board-certified or in the examination process for certification in: Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Radiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, or Orthopedic Surgery. 

Members who are not board-certified or eligible for certification in these specialties must have either completed or be currently enrolled in a pain fellowship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and begin education with SIS with the Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab. 

Requirements for Fellow and Resident Members
Fellow and Resident members who wish to take this course must be board-eligible in one of the above six specialties and are required to have previously taken the SIS Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab. Fellow and Resident members who are currently board-certified in one of the above six specialties may submit a waiver request to start instruction with this course. Waiver requests must include a statement from a Program Director attesting to the member’s skill level. Waiver requests must be submitted via email to: education@SpineIntervention.org.

Special Accommodations

SIS only contracts with facilities that are in compliance with the U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and also strives to meet the needs of all diets with food provided to participants during the course. All ADA accommodations and/or dietary requests should be submitted by Thursday, July 9, 2020 to registration@SpineIntervention.org.

Attendee Preparation
You can expect an email from the Society at least one week before the course. This message will contain educational and logistical information that we encourage you to review prior to attending. Upon completion of the course, you will also receive access to the final versions of the lectures that were presented.

Everyone attending our courses should be familiar with the SIS Practice Guidelines—the comprehensive compendium on evidence-based spine intervention. A print-only publication available by mail-order, the book includes detailed, illustrated depictions of needle placement and injectate flow patterns for cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral procedures.

During lab time, attendees should dress in casual attire or scrubs and closed-toed shoes. Leaded aprons and thyroid shields will be provided; please bring your own protective eyewear.

Registration Information
Registration is required and accepted on a first come, first served basis. Registrants will be confirmed via email. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact the office. Do not book hotel accommodations or airfare until you are confirmed for the course.

Cancellation Policy
The Spine Intervention Society requires cancellation at least 21 days prior to the course to receive a refund less a $150 administrative fee. Cancellation less than 21 days prior will result in forfeiture of all fees. SIS reserves the right to cancel this event due to circumstances beyond its control. The Society assumes no financial obligation to registrants for possible costs incurred.
