Stand side-by-side with expert instructors who have mastered the areas most important to you in this unique, hands-on lab where you choose the techniques you want to practice. Spend over 11 hours in lab rotations, receiving small-group instruction on techniques (excluding neuromodulation) from SIS’s Practice Guidelines for Spinal Diagnostic & Treatment Procedures.

This course contains hands-on lab instruction only; no lectures are provided.

Transportation

If flying to Denver International Airport (DEN), please arrange your own ground transportation to the hotel.

Taxis, rideshares, and rental cars are readily available at the airport. The hotel is an approximately 25-40 minute drive from the airport. Also at DEN, the Regional Transportation District’s A Line train offers a $9.00, 37-minute ride to Union Station where the Free 16th Street MallRide shuttle will take you to Tremont Street, one block from the hotel.

On Sunday at 1:10 p.m., after the completion of the course, SIS provides transportation to Denver International Airport directly from the Science Care facility. Please make flight arrangements after 3:00 p.m. SIS does not provide transportation to the airport prior to that time, or transportation back to the hotel.


Educational Objectives/CME Credits

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

 

  • Analyze the imaging depiction of the relevant anatomy;
  • Relate patient history and physical exam findings with imaging to achieve a likely diagnosis of the spinal pathology causing the patient’s pain or dysfunction;
  • Describe the literature support for the efficacy of the procedures;
  • Identify the risks and benefits of each procedure, as well as assessment, prevention, and treatment of potential complications;
  • Apply technically correct performance of the spinal procedures using safe fluoroscopic guidance with minimal tissue injury or discomfort.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)
The Spine Intervention Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Spine Intervention Society designates this live activity for a maximum of 13 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

The American Medical Association has determined that physicians not licensed in the US to participate in this CME activity are eligible for 
AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.



The Spine Intervention Society advises participants to continue to obtain proctoring, mentoring, and additional experience prior to treating patients.



Target Audience
This live activity has been designed for physicians who perform spine intervention procedures.

The Spine Intervention Society strongly advises that members are proficient in the lumbar spine before progressing to cervical techniques and other advanced interventional procedures. 

Who May Attend
Registration is open to Spine Intervention Society members who are board-certified or in the examination process for certification in: Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Radiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, or Orthopedic Surgery. 

Members who are not board-certified or eligible for certification in these specialties must have either completed or be currently enrolled in a pain fellowship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and begin education with SIS with the Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab. 

Requirements for Fellow and Resident Members
Fellow and Resident members who wish to take this course must be board-eligible in one of the above six specialties and are required to have previously taken the SIS Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab. Fellow and Resident members who are currently board-certified in one of the above six specialties may submit a waiver request to start instruction with this course. Waiver requests must include a statement from a Program Director attesting to the member’s skill level. Waiver requests must be submitted via email to: education@SpineIntervention.org.

Special Accommodations

SIS only contracts with facilities that are in compliance with the U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and also strives to meet the needs of all diets with food provided to participants during the course. All ADA accommodations and/or dietary requests should be submitted by Thursday, May 14, 2020 to registration@SpineIntervention.org.

Attendee Preparation
You can expect an email from the Society at least one week before the course. This message will contain educational and logistical information that we encourage you to review prior to attending. Upon completion of the course, you will also receive access to the final versions of the lectures that were presented.

Everyone attending our courses should be familiar with the SIS Practice Guidelines—the comprehensive compendium on evidence-based spine intervention. A print-only publication available by mail-order, the book includes detailed, illustrated depictions of needle placement and injectate flow patterns for cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral procedures.

During lab time, attendees should dress in casual attire or scrubs and closed-toed shoes. Leaded aprons and thyroid shields will be provided; please bring your own protective eyewear.

Registration Information
Registration is required and accepted on a first come, first served basis. Registrants will be confirmed via email. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact the office. Do not book hotel accommodations or airfare until you are confirmed for the course.

Cancellation Policy
The Spine Intervention Society requires cancellation at least 21 days prior to the course to receive a refund less a $150 administrative fee. Cancellation less than 21 days prior will result in forfeiture of all fees. SIS reserves the right to cancel this event due to circumstances beyond its control. The Society assumes no financial obligation to registrants for possible costs incurred.

SIS plans and implements educational activities in accordance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Criteria and Standards for Commercial Support to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor. The Instructor Development Committee Chair reviews all disclosures prior to presentation and has a process of resolution that, if not satisfied, results in the removal of the speaker. Disclosure information will be made available to all participants at this meeting. Speakers are also required to disclose this information to the participants verbally and on the introductory slide at the beginning of each presentation.

To ensure the integrity of members, volunteers, and leaders, and to maintain public confidence, SIS has adopted a policy of uniform disclosure of financial relationships.
