Building on the foundation provided by SIS’s Lumbar Lab, the Advanced Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab in Amsterdam takes you to a higher level. Expand your knowledge and skill with 8.75 hours of hands-on lab training. Plus, you'll experience 4.25 hours of lecture and breakout sessions and have an hour for discussion with your instructors.

Transportation
Upon arrival at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), please arrange your own ground transportation to the hotel. NS ProRail (the Dutch Railways) operates a train from the airport to Amsterdam central station. Trains run every 10 minutes from platforms 1 and 2 in the main arrival plaza. Ticket machines are located near the platforms at Schiphol Plaza. In 2016, ProRail is carrying out track renewals around Schiphol Airport. This may have consequences for your train journey, such as detours via different routes, additional transfers or replacement bus services. Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Analyze the imaging depiction of the relevant anatomy;
  • Relate patient history and physical exam findings with imaging to achieve a likely diagnosis of the spinal pathology causing the patient’s pain or dysfunction;
  • Describe the literature support for the efficacy of the procedures;
  • Identify the risks and benefits of each procedure, as well as assessment, prevention, and treatment of potential complications;
  • Apply technically correct performance of the spinal procedures using safe fluoroscopic guidance with minimal tissue injury or discomfort.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)
The Spine Intervention Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Spine Intervention Society designates this live activity for a maximum of 13 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).TM Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 


The Spine Intervention Society advises participants to continue to obtain proctoring, mentoring, and additional experience prior to treating patients.



Target Audience
This live activity has been designed for physicians who perform spine intervention procedures.

The Spine Intervention Society strongly advises that members are proficient in the lumbar spine before progressing to cervical techniques and other advanced interventional procedures. 

Who May Attend
Registration is open to Spine Intervention Society members who are board-certified or in the examination process for certification in: Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Radiology, Neurology, Orthopedic Surgery, or Neurosurgery. 

Members who are not board-certified or eligible for certification in these specialties must have either completed or be currently enrolled in a pain fellowship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and begin education with SIS with the Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab. 

Requirements for Fellow and Resident Members
Fellow and Resident members who wish to take this course must be board-eligible in one of the above six specialties and are required to have previously taken the SIS Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab. Fellow and Resident members who are currently board-certified in one of the above six specialties may submit a waiver request to start instruction with this course. Waiver requests must include a statement from a Program Director attesting to the member’s skill level. Waiver requests must be submitted via email to: education@SpineIntervention.org.

Special Accommodations
SIS only contracts with facilities that are in compliance with the U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and also strives to meet the needs of all diets with food provided to participants during the course. All ADA accommodations and/or dietary requests should be submitted by Thursday, September 27, 2018 to registration@SpineIntervention.org.

Attendee Preparation
Prior to attendance, participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Spine Intervention Society-sanctioned materials that will be emailed at least one week prior to the course and the SIS's Practice Guidelines for Spinal Diagnostics and Treatment Procedures, 2nd Edition. Attendees will receive copies of the presented lectures upon completion of the course. 

During lab time, attendees should dress in casual attire or scrubs and closed-toed shoes. Leaded aprons and thyroid shields will be provided; please bring your own protective eyewear.

Registration Information
Registration is required and accepted on a first come, first served basis. Registrants will be confirmed via email. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact the office. Do not book hotel accommodations or airfare until you are confirmed for the course.

Cancellation Policy
The Spine Intervention Society requires cancellation at least 21 days prior to the course to receive a refund less a $150 administrative fee. Cancellation less than 21 days prior will result in forfeiture of all fees. SIS reserves the right to cancel this event due to circumstances beyond its control. The Society assumes no financial obligation to registrants for possible costs incurred.

Disclosure Policy
SIS plans and implements educational activities in accordance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Criteria and Standards for Commercial Support to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor. As an ACCME-accredited provider, the Society’s policy requires program speakers, moderators, committee chairs, committee members, planners, and staff to disclose all financial relationships they may have or have had within the last twelve (12) months with commercial interests whose products or services may impact their presentation.

The Instructor Development Committee Chair reviews all disclosures prior to presentation and has a process of resolution that, if not satisfied, results in the removal of the speaker. The intent of this policy is not to prevent expert speakers with relevant relationship(s), with commercial interest(s), or other interests from involvement in CME but rather to ensure that the Society’s CME activities promote quality and safety, are effective in improving medical practice, are based on valid content, and are independent from commercial interests and free of commercial bias. Disclosure information will be made available to all participants at this meeting. Speakers are also required to disclose this information to the participants verbally and on the introductory slide at the beginning of each presentation.

To ensure the integrity of members, volunteers, and leaders, and to maintain public confidence, SIS has adopted a policy of uniform disclosure of financial relationships. Any individual participating in a sponsored activity must disclose to the audience any financial relationship in which the individual benefits by receiving a salary, royalty, intellectual property rights, consulting fee, honoraria, ownership interest (e.g. stocks, stock options or other ownership interest, excluding diversified mutual funds), or other financial benefit. The content or format of SIS CME activities and related materials promote improvements or quality in healthcare and not a specific proprietary business interest of a commercial interest. The Spine Intervention Society is a non-profit medical society. Revenues from this and all courses are used for future research and educational endeavors.

I agree to hold harmless and indemnify the Society from any and all claims involving the use of my picture or likeness. The Society reserves the right to use any photographs or videos taken at SIS events without the expressed written permission of those included within. The Society may record your likeness, image, voice, sound effects, interview, and performance and edit and incorporate such recording into formats, including but not limited to, educational, literary, and/or promotional materials such as advertising, website, and social media content with or without the participant’s name.

SIS shall retain final editorial, artistic, and technical control of the recording and content from any event and may use and authorize others to use the recording, and any portions thereof, in all markets, manner, and media, whether now known or hereafter developed.
