Description
This 16-hour radiofrequency procedures course has been developed using a systematic evidence-based approach and is designed to address professional practice gaps. Our courses are highly structured and utilize experienced instructors from multiple disciplines who provide 8.5 hours of hands-on lab instruction, 6.5 hours of lecture and breakout sessions, and 1 hour of time dedicated to discussion between instructors and attendees.

Radiofrequency is a treatment option that has the potential to positively affect your patients’ well-being. This course is designed to teach you how to correlate imaging with the anatomy of the innervation of the zygapophysial joints; identify principles of radiofrequency lesioning; assess symptomology and interpret results of medial branch blocks to optimally select patients; and apply evidence-based knowledge to performance of radiofrequency neurotomy.

Both lumbar and cervical regions will be covered.

Transportation
If you are flying to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), please arrange your own ground transportation to the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at The Buttes. SIS will provide transportation back to PHX on Sunday at 12:10 p.m. directly from the course facility. Please make flight arrangements after 2:00 p.m. SIS does not provide transportation to the airport prior to that time, or any transportation back to the hotel.

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Analyze the imaging depiction of the relevant anatomy;
  • Relate patient history and physical exam findings with imaging to achieve a likely diagnosis of the spinal pathology causing the patient’s pain or dysfunction;
  • Describe the literature support for the efficacy of the procedures;
  • Identify the risks and benefits of each procedure, as well as assessment, prevention, and treatment of potential complications;
  • Apply technically correct performance of the spinal procedures using safe fluoroscopic guidance with minimal tissue injury or discomfort.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)
The Spine Intervention Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Spine Intervention Society designates this live activity for a maximum of 16 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).TM Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.


The Spine Intervention Society advises participants to continue to obtain proctoring, mentoring, and additional experience prior to treating patients.



Target Audience
This live activity has been designed for physicians who perform spine intervention procedures.

The Spine Intervention Society strongly advises that members are proficient in the lumbar spine before progressing to cervical techniques and other advanced interventional procedures.

Who May Attend
Spine Intervention Society members who are board-certified or in the examination process for certification in the following specialties: Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Radiology, Neurology, Orthopedic Surgery, and Neurosurgery.

Members who are not board-certified or eligible in these specialties must have either completed or be currently enrolled in a pain fellowship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and begin education with SIS with the Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab.

Requirements for Fellow and Resident Members
Fellow and Resident members who wish to take this course must be board-eligible in one of the above six specialties and are required to have previously taken the SIS Lumbar Bio-Skills Lab. Fellow and Resident members who are currently board-certified in one of the above six specialties may submit a waiver request to start instruction with this course. Waiver requests must include a statement from a Program Director attesting to the member’s skill level. Waiver requests must be submitted via email to: education@SpineIntervention.org.

Special Accommodations
SIS only contracts with facilities that are in compliance with the U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and also strives to meet the needs of all diets with food provided to participants during the course. All ADA accommodations and/or dietary requests should be submitted by Wednesday, December 13, 2017 to registration@SpineIntervention.org.

Attendee Preparation
Prior to attendance, participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Spine Intervention Society-sanctioned materials that will be emailed at least one week prior to the course and the SIS's Practice Guidelines for Spinal Diagnostics and Treatment Procedures, 2nd Edition. Attendees will receive copies of the presented lectures upon completion of the course. 

During lab time, attendees should dress in casual attire or scrubs and closed-toed shoes. Leaded aprons and thyroid shields will be provided; please bring your own protective eyewear.

Registration Information
Registration is required and accepted on a first come, first served basis. Registrants will be confirmed via email. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact the office. Do not book hotel accommodations or airfare until you are confirmed for the course.

Cancellation Policy
The Spine Intervention Society requires cancellation at least 21 days prior to the course to receive a refund less a $150 administrative fee. Cancellation less than 21 days prior will result in forfeiture of all fees. SIS reserves the right to cancel this event due to circumstances beyond its control. The Society assumes no financial obligation to registrants for possible costs incurred.

Disclosure Policy
SIS plans and implements educational activities in accordance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Criteria and Standards for Commercial Support to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor.
